Fire Chief / Emergency Management Director

The town of Athol, a growing community of nearly 12,000 residents, seeks an experienced candidate for the position of Fire Chief / Emergency Management Director.  Appointed by the Town Manager, the Fire Chief is responsible for managing all administrative and operational aspects of a full-time, full-service fire and ambulance department.  The ideal candidate will have a record of demonstrated success and possess outstanding leadership, communication and budgeting skills. 


Minimum 15 years’ experience in an organized fire department with at least five years’ experience in a firefighting command capacity; associate’s degree in fire science, business management or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  EMT Basic certification required; must have successfully completed Fire Officer training; must hold valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license; must establish residency within 15-mile radius of town boundary within one year of appointment.
