Flushable Wipes?!?! No - DO NOT FLUSH!!!

Don't Flush Those Wipes - PLEASE!

You have probably never given much thought to what you are flushing down your commode (toilet).  The town has a very intricate network of pipes that feeds into the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). At the entry point of the WWTP, a fine screen is set up to catch debris, such as rocks, small sticks and other items that don’t belong there, in order to protect the system. The major problem the town is having currently is the wipes that are being flushed down toilets, which are plugging up our lines and pump stations.

We have had at least a dozen plugs this year due to these nasty wipes and in turn pumps have been clogged and then must be cleaned out. The result is serious backups which have plugged main sewer lines that have overflowed onto streets and into homes. You are responsible for what you flush down your toilet to the main line. These wipes form large balls in the sewer lines causing backups.  So please throw away any cleaning/disinfecting wipes, moist towelettes, personal hygiene products, etc. into the trash; never down your toilet. Trashing disposable wipes is such an easy way to prevent backups and overflows in the sewer lines.

Thank you for help.
