Seeking Athol Residents for Representation on the Town of Athol’s Parking Benefits District Oversight Committee

November 27, 2023

The Town of Athol is seeking Athol residents, Downtown property owners and/or business owners to join the Town of Athol Parking Benefits District Oversight Committee.   One public-at-large seat is available at this time.

Athol Voters passed Article 28 at the June 14, 2021 Annual Town Meeting to accept the provisions of Mass. General Law Chapter 40, sections 22A, 22B and 22C, and authorize the Board of Selectmen to establish parking benefits districts in which parking revenue collected therein, may be designated in whole or in part for use in that district through a dedicated fund in the accordance with the purposes and uses listed in the State Laws.

The Committee was established by the Board of Selectmen in August 2021 to include two at-large members.  Additional members include a representative from the following boards and committee: Board of Selectmen, Board of Planning and Community Development, Capital Planning Committee, Downtown Vitality Committee, and the Finance Warrant and Advisory Committee.

The Committee is charged with reviewing potential projects for use of the parking meter receipts, which will include, but not limited to, maintenance of the parking meters, enforcement, and various Downtown improvements as allowed by State Law.  The Committee then makes a recommendation to the Town budgetary process for ultimate approval by the Town Meeting Voters.  Typically, the Committee meets no more than nine (9) times a year on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 5:00pm.
