The Town Hall is closed to the public but we will be checking email & voicemail daily.

Field card requests and motor vehicle excise abatements will be processed when we are in the Office.

The primary responsibility of the Assessors Office is to accurately and fairly assess all property in the Town of Athol, as required by Massachusetts General Law and administered by the Department of Revenue.  

The Assessor does not raise or lower taxes nor do they make the laws that affect property owners.

The Assessors Office has nothing to do with the total amount of taxes collected. The Assessor's primary responsibility is to find the "full and fair cash value" of your property, so that you pay only your fair share of the taxes.  The tax rate is determined by all the taxing divisions within the Town, and is the basis for the budget, as voted by the Town Meeting, needed to provide services, such as schools, roads, fire, law enforcement, etc.  The tax rate is simply the rate that will provide the funds to pay for those services.
